I AM LOVE SCULPTURE

ABOUT

The “I Am Love” sculpture in Chelmsford is a public artwork designed to raise awareness about youth violence and promote positive community action. Standing at 15 feet tall and weighing 1.25 tonnes, the sculpture is constructed from 900 meters of 8mm x 316 grade stainless steel. Its design features a heart symbolizing life and love, adorned with feathers representing honour, unity, freedom, and strength in numbers. Additionally, it incorporates knives collected from amnesty bins across Essex, donated by Essex Police and Keep It 100 Youth CIC, which have been treated and welded into the structure by artist Alfie Bradley.

The sculpture is a collaborative creation by Alfie Bradley, known for the Knife Angel, and Luisa Di Marco. It is named after the song “I Am Love” by Joy Farrukh, a mentor and ambassador for Keep It 100 Youth CIC, reflecting the organization’s ethos of empowering individuals to make positive choices.

Located on Frank Whitmore Green, near Central Park’s skate park, the site was chosen for its open, accessible environment, providing a space for reflection and conversation. The sculpture aims to serve as a catalyst for discussions on youth violence, offering a place for education and contemplation.

The “I Am Love” sculpture was unveiled in October 2024, with participation from various community members, including the High Sheriff of Essex and big Nasty.
